Because knowing the Japanese language is important when living in a country where majority of its people do not speak English, it is required for all international students applying for English basis take a Japanese placement test. Similar for those who apply for Japanese-basis are required to take an English placement test, this is because it is an international university where both Japanese and English are recognized as its main languages. Whether you are a beginner, elementary or fluent, does not matter as it is required in your first year as a student to take a few language courses to further improve your Japanese or English. APU is quite famous for their language courses. Other than learning Japanese or English, after students have successfully passed their Intermediate level Japanese then students are free to choose and can also learn French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Korean, Indonesian, Vietnamese, or Thai.
Because APU is an international university, it recognizes that not all prospective students finish their high school or other degrees at the same time each year.
